Phaze Concrete Continues to Experience Rapid Growth

Phaze Concrete

Phaze Concrete is a construction company that was founded in 2003 and Paul Beagley, its COO, has been at the forefront of its growth and development. Starting with just a few employees, the business has grown to having 220 employees, generating a revenue of $43 million per year. The company embodies the true success story, especially considering that it was able to ride out the 2007 economic crash, which hit the construction industry very hard.

"For over 10 years, Phaze Concrete has been a leader in delivering quality concrete to the construction industry. [...] Phaze has completed the concrete scope for hundreds of new and remodel projects including large box office stores, warehouses, distribution centers, parking garages, hotels, airports, post offices, hospitals, colleges, and custom homes," according to Phazeconcrete.com

The company now has offices in various locations, as well as having a license to deliver their services in 17 states. Their biggest customer base is found in the west of the country, although they are happy to take on projects in other geographical areas, too. One of the reasons why the company has experienced such significant and rapid growth is due to their excellence in flatwork.

"Flatwork is a common, very broad term, for any horizontal flat building component that is normally placed or laid down to form that surface. [...] Special electronic levels and trowels and screeds are used to ensure a level and accurate placement of the flatwork. In many instances, especially warehouse work, the tolerances of flatwork are so small, that specialized processes are utilized to place and ensure flatness," according to builder-questions.com.

The company has a unique method of working: it does not subcontract work out. Rather, it sends its own staff to job sites, regardless of where they are. There is, therefore, a very strong focus on recruitment, with the company regularly taking on new apprentices who are trained on the job. Once they complete their training, they become ACI certified and can find full employment with Phaze Concrete.

"A Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete," according to Concrete.org

Looking toward the future, Phaze Concrete is focusing strongly on mobilization. Because they do not use subcontractors but only their own in-house staff, they are always looking for ways to arrange travel and accommodation in an affordable, efficient manner. Additionally, they always ensure that, once their staff arrive at a site, they are ready to get started straight away and do not have to waste countless more hours on planning the job.

The key resources of the company are in its people and in its equipment. A lot of investments are made within those two, and the company also prides itself on paying staff above standard wages for the industry. Furthermore, staff are provided training, education, and certification. While the company is profitable, most of those profits are sent back to the company to further develop it.

Phaze Concrete also ensures that it is always on top when it comes to new developments. The company’s services are in high demand and it usually has around six to eight months of work waiting to be completed. Recently, there has been a slowdown in the field of big-box store construction, which happens to be where most of the company’s work is done. As a result of this, they are currently investing on diversifying the skills of the workforce, so that they are able to meet new and emerging demands.

For Phaze Concrete, the focus has to be on quality and experience. They pride themselves on having innovative technologies and an engaged workforce to deliver the highest possible quality work. It is no surprise that they have grown so much and continue to sustain this.
