Vincent Legacy Foundation and Kansas City's Starlight Theatre have provided scholarship awards since 2006 to deserving middle school students throughout the Kansas City metro area.

The financial need-based scholarship program was established twelve years ago by longtime Starlight Theatre supporter and current board member, Gregory Reid. The nonprofit initiative provides ethnically diverse middle school students in metropolitan Kansas City the opportunity to pursue professional training in the world of performing arts.

President and founder of the brand development consultancy group BoomDeYada-LLC, Mr. Reid says of the program, "The Vincent Legacy Scholarship program continues to grow in both momentum and in the impact it has upon deserving and supremely talented young students."

This program is something that I'm incredibly passionate about, and each year we see recipients of the award go on to accomplish amazing things with the help of professional instruction and direction, provided in conjunction with Starlight Theatre.

Each Vincent Legacy Scholarship provides funding and guidance to the recipient to secure performing arts training during his or her middle and high school years. The professional training funds are administered by Starlight Theatre's education and outreach department.

"This program is something that I'm incredibly passionate about, and each year we see recipients of the award go on to accomplish amazing things with the help of professional instruction and direction, provided in conjunction with Starlight Theatre," explains Reid.

To qualify for a Vincent Legacy Scholarship, students in grades six, seven and eight must display "talent and passion for the performing arts." Furthermore, they must be nominated by a teaching or education professional, have strong grades, maintain exemplary attendance at school and show a demonstrated interest in serving the community. Those who meet the criteria are then invited to audition for a Vincent Legacy Scholarship before the Starlight Theatre scholarship committee.

This year, four students were selected to receive scholarships, bringing the total number of young people receiving and benefiting from the scholarship program to 36 since the initiative began in 2006. "Typically, two students are chosen each year to receive Vincent Legacy Scholarships," highlights Mr. Reid, "although this year, we were able to award four scholarships thanks in part to a generous donation from the Kansas City Royals organization."

Kansas City’s Starlight Theatre has operated continuously since 1951, dedicated to producing, presenting and promoting excellence in musical theatre and the performing arts. "Starlight Theatre strives to enrich the Kansas City metro area for all residents and visitors," adds BoomDeYada-LLC founder Gregory Reid, "by building appreciation for the performing arts, making live theatre and music accessible and affordable and providing community outreach programs and superior theatre arts education."
