Clearwater, Florida, May 30, 2017 (Newswire.com) - In Hillsborough County, just outside of Clearwater, the 2017 national rowing championship is well underway, with the semi-finals taking place next weekend. Only five teams remain, one of which is led by Brian Dahlberg from Clearwater. It is customary within the field of rowing to have four teams in the finals.
To earn a place in the semi-finals, Brian Dahlberg had to guide his team through four heats, earning the fastest time among them. They were able to beat Pinellas County, as well as Tampa, and St. Petersburg. The race was incredibly exciting, particularly because everyone expected Pinellas County to be a lot faster, as their rowing team has been the champion for several years running.
Yet, despite this, Pinellas County lagged behind Brian Dahlberg's team. It is now known, therefore, that the five teams that went through were Pinellas County, Tampa, St Petersburg, Hillsborough County, and Clearwater.
Under the guidance of Brian Dahlberg, the team has fended off some of the traditional giants in their sport, including teams from Orlando and Miami. The final heat was particularly exciting, with each team truly going for it in the hopes of being able to get to the semi-finals. Considering how closely matched the teams were, it was really a match filled with tension, and the finals itself will likely be even more exciting.
Brian Dahlberg got into racing from an early age, spending much of his free time on the water with his parents. While still very young, his father already saw that he had required for participation in rowing.
"If aiming to do rowing on a competitive or even a professional level several qualities are a must if you are looking to succeed. Firstly, rowing is a very physically enduring activity - and when racing you will require strength and above all stamina to beat your opposition. The way that the boat and exercise motion works benefits those of a taller stature. As well as that, it is often recommended to have a good sense of rhythm - such as you might have if you do music, this is very important as it enables you to time your "stroke" with other people in the boat, and of course means you will move quicker."-www.answers.com
Brian Dahlberg's parents believe in the importance of physical education, but their main goal is to provide their children with education in general. They pointed out that Brian Dahlberg would be fully supported in his endeavors to become a professional rower, but only if he is able to complete a degree at the bachelor's level at least, which he is currently undertaking. He remains hopeful, however, that he will be able to take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, by which time he expects to have already graduated.
His parents, however, are more concerned about that upcoming graduation, although they do support him and his team in the 2017 Florida rowing championship and are rooting for his team to win it. His mother says: "He really has worked hard enough for it!"
