Bill Rini Looks at the Trend Toward Locally Produced Food and Drink

Bill Rini is a keen advocate of buying local, especially when it comes to food and drink.

​In a recent interview with a local business publication, the luxury catering company owner said of the fact, "We buy Ohio Proud beef and serve Ohio City Pasta, Lucky Penny Creamery products, and Mitchell's Ice Cream, among other local produce and products."

"Today," he claims, "people know their wines, they know fine food, and as a result, they're looking for more locally produced goods. That's why whatever we can source locally, we use."

As the owner of Strongsville-based A Taste of Excellence Catering, Bill Rini has indeed committed to sourcing the best local produce wherever possible.

"Local foods create community and knowing where your food comes from connects you to the people who raised, grew or produced it," he suggests. "This simply isn't the case with most supermarkets and other large, national or international suppliers."

According to a study commissioned by The Goodstone Group, the U.S. food supply, and agriculture industries are forecast to be worth $3 trillion in annual economic activity by 2020.

What's more, the vast total is representative purely of the nation's retail grocery sector and does not take into account the restaurant trade, catering companies, or other smaller independent businesses.

"When you factor these in," explains Rini, "the true value of agriculture and produce, in the United States, particularly to local economies, is much higher. It might be great for the wider economy, but it's not great for local industries, or the environment."

Rini further explains that, of the national total, very little of what's produced stays local. "Instead," the catering boss explains, "it's produced on an industrial scale at large regional facilities, before being distributed across the U.S. and globally."

Along with Rini, market research and business intelligence portal Statista suggests that over a quarter of Americans now share his sentiment, preferring local brands and businesses to larger national or international alternatives.

Furthermore, of those polled by the organization and found to be in agreement with Rini's perspective, the majority suggested that local producers offered both better quality and value, and a more positive overall buying experience.

"At A Taste of Excellence Catering, we're here to deliver quality," says Rini. "We're able to do this by dealing with local producers, suppliers, and also venues. It's something which our client base certainly seems to appreciate."

"What's more," he adds in conclusion, "by dealing with other local businesses we're supporting the area, helping the environment, and in doing so, we're often saving our customers money at the same time. It's a win-win situation."
