LONG ISLAND, N.Y., February 8, 2018 (Newswire.com) - A proud supporter of St. Baldrick's Foundation, August Ruckdeschel has resumed his role of "shavee" in a recent fundraising effort.
St. Baldrick's Foundation, based in California, exists to fund lifesaving research into curing and conquering childhood cancers and leukemia.
The heartbreak caused by childhood cancer is something August Ruckdeschel knows only too well, having tragically lost his younger brother to the disease.
Speaking of his recent fundraising, he says, "As a society, we know we can be doing a much better job of fighting leukemia and childhood cancer and disease, so enough is enough!"
On the loss of his own brother, he adds, "I don't think I need to remind [anyone] what the loss of my youngest brother, Ryan, has done to my family. Childhood diseases are just traumatizing to the families affected."
Now, every two years, Ruckdeschel shaves his head for charities such as St. Baldrick's Foundation in an effort to raise both awareness and vital funds.
It's what St. Baldrick's Foundation calls becoming "a shavee", and each year thousands of individuals take part in the foundation's signature head-shaving events.
Ruckdeschel's previous visit to the barber's chair raised $2,500 for St. Baldrick's.
It's an impressive total, but one which he was keen to smash, this time setting a new target of $3,000.
In a fantastic show of charity from friends, family, colleagues, and strangers alike, Ruckdeschel successfully raised over $6,700 for St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Speaking of the total, he declared, "I'm delighted!" before going on to thank those who had donated for their kindness and generosity.
As a result of his most recent charity head shaving, Ruckdeschel has joined the ranks of what St. Baldrick's Foundation calls its "Squires of Hope".
"Be it known to all that August Ruckdeschel has dedicated at least three years of service to the St. Baldrick's Foundation helping kids with cancer throughout all the land," says the charity, of Ruckdeschel achieving his new title.
Last year, almost 15,000 fellow shavees and fundraisers collected over $12 million for the foundation, joining Ruckdeschel in ranks such as "Knights of Hope", "Commanders of Hope", and Crusaders of Hope".
Since 2005, St. Baldrick's has given more than $230 million to support life-saving pediatric cancer research. The foundation funds some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world, as well as organizations such as the Pediatric Cancer Dream Team, in association with Stand Up To Cancer.
